Our reactions

Optometry Scotland Chairman, FODO Executive member, Hal Rollason (pictured):

“This is a defining moment for Optometry in Scotland, and the profession and the SEHD should be congratulated for taking a major step that will provide fundamental improvements to how eyecare is delivered. Optometry must rise and embrace this challenge. The key to our success has been working as a united sector in strong cohesion with the SEHD. The Review of Eycare Services working group was so diverse that one could not canvas a wider opinion. They came out firmly in favour of optometry and widening the role and responsibility of optometrists.”

FODO Chairman Brian Collison:

“The Scottish team has shown just what can be achieved. This is a major breakthrough in terms of eyecare and is a major leap forward for ocular health. Ministers and Scottish officials deserve our praise for their enlightened and inclusive approach.”

David Hewlett, FODO Chief Executive:

“This is an excellent deal for patients and the optical sector. It shows what can be achieved for patients and in terms of public health, when the government works in partnership with the sector. This is the sort of relationship we must aim to build in     England.”
