Plastic Carrier Bag Guidance – England
In order to reduce plastic carrier bag usage and environmental damage, new regulations came into force in England on 5 October 2015 introducing a minimum charge of 5p (including VAT) to customers for each single-use plastic carrier bag. The charge is mandatory unless either the supplier or the items sold fits into one of the exemption categories.
Carrier Bag Guidance – Wales
On 1 October 2011, new regulations came into force in Wales requiring all suppliers who sell goods in the course of business or trade to charge customers a minimum of 5p for each single-use carrier bag supplied to take the purchased goods away.
Carrier Bags Guidance – Scotland
Single use carrier bag regulations were introduced in Scotland in October 2014. In response, the Optical Confederation and Optometry Scotland have produced joint advice for opticians in Scotland.
Carrier Bags Guidance – Northern Ireland
Regulations in Northern Ireland state that Northern Ireland retailers must charge at least 5p for new carrier bags, regardless of the material they are made from.
