The Opticians Act 1989, including subsequent amendments, orders and rules lays out the requirements for registration, sight testing, sale of appliances and using protected titles.
It also sets out the framework for the General Optical Council, its duties and powers and gives the Council powers to make orders, rules and regulations in relevant areas.
