Quality in Optometry – England
Quality in Optometry is a toolkit for clinical governance in optical practices located in England. The toolkit was updated early 2017 together with a user guide explaining the changes. There are two main toolkits available, the first covering the GOS contract and the second the NHS Standard Contract. There is also a practitioner checklist and staff checklist for non-clinical staff. These toolkits have been developed by the Optical Confederation, College of Optometrists and LOCSU.
A toolkit for Welsh optical practices is currently under development.
Quality in Optometry (QIO) Checklist – GOS Contract
The QIO GOS Contract Checklist can be used to ensure GOS contract compliance. It is used by NHS England Area Teams for the purposes of checking and monitoring contract compliance. Contractors are expected to complete and submit a Level 1 report once every 3 years, together with an action plan for rectifying any non-compliant issues. Practices that flag as outliers, together with a small random selection of others, may be subject to compliance visits.
