In this section you will find useful information and data on the eye care workforce.
This includes maps which show the distribution of the GOC registered optometrist workforce and a table which provides a summary of the competencies and qualifications of primary care optometrists.
We will be adding data for dispensing opticians in due course but in the meantime please also email us at [email protected] about what you would like to see on this workforce data hub.
Optometrist workforce heatmap
This map shows the concentration of GOC registered optometrist based on recorded hometown in the GOC register. Where towns are unknown they have been mapped based on practice location.
Optometrist workforce map
This map shows the number of optometrists in any location. Please note we have excluded any area where there are less than 5 optometrists, which means a town with 1-4 optometrist will not show.

The table below has been co-produced by ABDO, AOP, College of Optometrists, FODO and LOCSU. It provides an overview of the competencies and qualifications of primary care optometrists.
