Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme CJRS update

The government has updated information on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) today. 

Who can claim? You can now claim through the CJRS for employees that were on your PAYE payroll on or before 19 March. Previously it was 28 February. This means more people might be eligible for CJRS. 

What you’ll need to make a claim has also been updated. This includes more guidance on what to do if you furlough fewer than 100 staff and more than 100 staff, as well as record keeping, HMRC’s right to retrospectively audit all aspects of a claim, and the difference between using an agent and file-only agent for your PAYE. 

• Members with fewer than 100 furloughed staff are advised to ensure they have all the information they will need to input into the online system once it is ready: 
  
  “This will include their name, National Insurance number, claim period and claim amount, and payroll/employee number (optional)” 

• Members with more than 100 furloughed staff are advised to prepare files in advance in order to minimise processing time once the online platform is ready: 
  
  “If you have 100 or more furloughed staff you will be asked to upload a file with the information rather than input it directly into the system. We will accept the following file types: .xls .xlsx .csv .ods. 
  
  “The file should include the following information for each furloughed employee: name, National Insurance number, claim period and claim amount, payroll/employee number (optional).”
